Nestled inside the bustling Shun Fat Supermarket on Spring Mountain Road, Big Dan XI-AN Taste is a remarkable gem for lovers of authentic Chinese cuisine, specifically the vibrant and rich flavors of Xi’an. This cozy, unpretentious restaurant invites you to dive deep into the essence of northwestern Chinese home-style cooking, where each dish tells a story steeped in centuries of culinary tradition.
From the moment you step in, you’re greeted by the enticing aroma of hand-pulled noodles and slow-simmered broths. The intimate dining area, with about a dozen tables tucked neatly inside the supermarket, offers a warm, no-frills atmosphere that truly focuses your attention on the star of the show—the food.
The menu is a curated celebration of Xi’an specialties, crafted with care and authenticity. Start with the famed Special Hot Oil Noodle (油泼面), a beautiful dance of thin noodles laced with fragrant chili oil that tingles the palate and warms the soul. Or savor the comforting Chinese Pork Hamburger (腊汁肉夹馍), where tender braised pork hugs a perfectly crisp pita-like bun, melding texture and flavor in every bite.
For those looking to explore unique and hearty flavors, the Liangpi cold noodles and Sheep Soup (羊杂汤) stand out. The latter is a rich, layered broth packed with lamb organ meats, offering an umami-packed experience that transports you to the vibrant street food stalls of Xi’an. Likewise, the Pita Bread Soaked in Lamb Soup (牛羊肉泡馍) is a comforting, soulful dish, where bits of fluffy bread absorb the meaty, savory broth — a dish loved by many regulars.
Vegetable lovers will appreciate options like the Stir-Fried Bean Jelly and the fresh, zesty cold noodle dishes bursting with bright, balanced flavors. Don’t miss the Hot and Sour Soup with Pork Dumplings, a fan favorite praised for its perfectly harmonized sourness that tantalizes without overwhelming.
In addition to its authentic fare, Big Dan XI-AN Taste offers an impressive lineup of drinks that complement the richness of traditional Xi’an dishes. The homemade plum juice delivers a subtly sweet and tangy refreshment, while the Beijing yogurt provides a creamy, cool contrast to the meal’s spice and acidity.
What truly makes Big Dan XI-AN Taste special is how it effortlessly combines authenticity with approachability. Diners repeatedly praise the friendly service, quick preparation times, generous portions, and above all, the unmistakable quality of the cuisine—a rare find inside a supermarket setting. As Vanessa Ferreira shared, the flavorful lamb burger and the irresistible noodles keep guests coming back, while Karmei Law’s recommendation of the cold noodles and soaked pita bread highlights the care taken in maintaining traditional recipes.
Whether you’re a seasoned fan of Xi’an cuisine or just looking to broaden your palate with bold, savory, and sometimes spicy dishes, Big Dan XI-AN Taste is an inviting spot where every bite resonates with cultural richness and culinary excellence. It’s a taste adventure wrapped in comfort and nostalgia, inside a space that feels just like home.

Hometown Style Pork w. Noodle 腊汁肉揪面片 - this was delicious! The pork was so tender the sauce is amazing and the noodles that are handmade were perfect bite. I wish I lived in Vegas just so I can eat here all the time! Highly recommend!!!
All the food I grew up with! Fresh made hand pulled noodles with delicious sauce. Highly recommend the Tomato Egg Noodles and beef noodle soup. The food comes out so quick and in such big portions! We were wimps and couldn’t handle the spice level. So be careful when you ask for ! It was also cool to see this mom and pop place show up on our favorite Netflix show.
We tried LiangPi, Chinese hamburger, stir fried noodles with lamp, Lamp soup with bread, and lamp soup. Love the flavor! It reminds me of my hometown foods… The restaurant locates inside of the SF supermarket with 12 tables. Recommend it!
Easy to get seating when you arrive early in the day. I've seen this place completely packed by 1 pm. We arrived shortly after 10 am and a couple tables were filled. We ordered the spicy intestines noodle soup and the lamb haggis noodle soup. Loved the noodles. They feel handmade and have great texture. The intestines could be softer. The spicy broth is surprisingly spicy. It sounds obvious but I have been to many spicy Chinese places where the spicy tends to be medium spice for my tolerance. I really enjoyed the light lamb broth. Great place to enjoy an inexpensive meal! I would come back to try other menu items in the future.
Idk what it is about this place but I always have the most intense craving for it when im pregnant. Currently im 5 months with twins due in march and I've been craving #21 since August. I live so far away though- flamingo and nellis BUT always worth the drive ate every last drop!! Can't wait to come back
I am from Xi’an and can attest to how authentic this place is! Everything I had was amazing, from the cold skin noodles that were perfectly seasoned and tangy to the hand-pulled noodles with various toppings that were so delicious! Highly recommend!
